The Toyoda Gosei Group specializes in the field of high polymers- rubber and plastics. Our symbol is the benzene ring, a hexagonal hydrocarbon structure that is the starting point for polymers. Borrowing from the six sides of the benzene ring, the TG 2050 Environmental Challenge sets six challenges to strengthen our environmental efforts with a long-term view to the year 2050.
The Afforestation Project
Toyoda Gosei is committed to protecting the environment in the communities where we live and work. We launched the Woodland Restoration Project in 2009 under the guidance of Dr. Akira Miyawaki, Professor Emeritus, Yokohama National University, for the global 60th anniversary of the company's foundation. Our goal is to plant trees worldwide and create naturally sustainable environments.
Innovations in LED EfficiencyLEDs have three features that make them environmentally friendly.
The first is outstanding energy efficiency. Incandescent bulbs emit light with heat, similar to a flame, and more than 90% of the energy they consume produces heat. The second feature is long life. LEDs have a lifetime of 40,000 hours. This is about four times longer than fluorescent lights and more than ten times longer than incandescent bulbs.
The third feature is that, unlike fluorescent lights and mercury lamps, they do not include toxic mercury. Mercury is harmful both to the environment and the human body.
In June 2017, Toyoda Gosei was awareded the UNESCO Medal in recognition of the company's contributions to the spread of LEDs. In 1991, under the guidance of Professor Isamu Akasaki, Toyoda Gosei led the world in successfully developing a GaN blue LED which achieved a practical application in 1995.
